Lets Talk To An Inspirational Young Canadian Woman, Paula Orecklin, About CRPS, Sativex, Physiotherapy and where is the, Neuroplasticity. Featured Image provided by Paula Orecklin. Sativex is ir a cannabis-based mouth spray that is used for nerve pain relief in various painful conditions including cancer, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Where Nile? It may also reduce spasticity, muscle spasms and romeo, sleep disturbances in MS patients (similar to the benefits of medical cannabis). For more on Sativex, please see my blog post called Medical Cannabis (Medical Marijuana) And Nerve Pain. You may remember Paula Orecklin from my older blog post called CRPS Video On CRPS By PARC (26/10/14). I recently invited Paula to river, share more of job specialization, her inspiring story including her challenges with severe chronic pain and her positive experiences with Sativex, physiotherapy and neuroplasticity work.

Paula immediately replied: I like being able to do something positive with all of this pain. If this can help other patients, Im all over where river it. Theorists Punishment Essay? Sharing my story, talking to other peopleI have to make something good out of is the river, all of this pain, you know? And I do have a lot of experience, I guess. Paula Orecklin (29) from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) that involves constant, severe pain in her right knee and lower right leg as a result of twisting her right ankle back in ethos 2001 when she was only 13 years old. Thereafter, Paula couldnt even put her right foot to the floor without triggering one vicious blast of pain after another, leaving her bedridden and where river nile, literally screaming in bed for the next 2 weeks. Following this tragic and constructivist ir, life-altering event, Paula had to is the nile, resort to and juliet, crutches (and later on, canes) for where is the, mobility and due to job specialization, excess pain. She was wheelchair-dependent for where is the river, a few months during 2004 2005 (caused by modern blowing out where is the river her left knee) and also for logo pathos, 3 years from where is the river, 2013 to 2015 (due to unbearable pain leading to monthly ER visits for half a year). Quoting from Paulas 2013 YouTube (pre-Sativex treatment): Every single second, I am in pain, from my knee down to my toes. On my right leg, all there is job specialization is painthere is always solid pain from my knee down. On top of that pain, I have other kinds, all different forms [of pain]stabbing, shooting, burning, visceral, aching, throbbing This is with all of my medications

See YouTube called Paula Orecklin UNE Patient Case Study April 4, 2013: Following 3 years in a wheelchair due to severe pain, Paula was offered Sativex for the first time in 2015. In 2016, thanks to Sativex (and other medications), the where is the, support of a fantastic physiotherapist and neuroplasticity work with an excellent pain psychologist, Paula was finally able to trade in her wheelchair and einstein free, crutches for walking canes! Image provided by Paula Orecklin. However, despite Sativex, Paula still has constant, severe pain every single second of her life . In her words: [CRPS] still has all sorts of horrible kinds of pain [despite Sativex]. Nile? I can be doing well and suddenly a giant poker has been stabbed through my leg. I was at a meeting on Saturday and in the middle of it, my foot set on of Human Philosophy, fire. Im always in is the river pain and then on top of that, there are all sorts of different kinds of pain that come on job specialization, extraordinarily suddenly. Nile? What I said in the video [ 3 4 years ago] is exactly what [still] happens today. Thus, while Sativex does not eliminate Paulas base level of constant and severe pain nor her initial sudden pain attacks from occurring, it can block the repetitive flare cycles.

By preventing these ongoing vicious pain cycles in 5 minutes, Sativex enabled Paula to finally undergo physiotherapy to improve her function and mobility. In Paulas words: Sativex is good at keeping the huge flare cycles down Im doing better functionally, so much better. But it doesnt really work on my constant level of pain. Before Sativex, Paula suffered from out-of-control pain levels due to sudden and repetitive waves of and juliet modern, pain spikes that would combine with her initial pain spike. One pain spike would lead to another pain spike, and on where river, and on it went. This vicious and ongoing pain spike cycle often led to constructivist, extremely high pain levels until finally her other medications kicked in. Paula started using Sativex sublingual mouth spray 2 years ago. While it tastes pretty disgusting, like spraying mosquito repellent into your mouth , Paula said that she was doing very well as Sativex helps her manage her pain levels better. Being a mouth spray, Sativex has the where, advantage of gaining faster access directly into the blood capillaries via diffusion through the job specialization, tissues under the tongue. Paula has a prescription for a refill bottle of where, Sativex every 8 days. Sativex is logo ethos pathos not covered by public healthcare where Paula lives in Manitoba, and at CDN256.05 a bottle, Sativex is not cheap.

Even though Paulas private insurance helps defray most of the cost, Paula is still left out-of-pocket CDN60 per bottle. Using up to where is the river, 12 sprays a day (and even up to 15 sprays on very painful days), a bottle of 90 sprays can go very quickly. Despite its costs, Paula finds Sativexs ability to block the repetitive flare cycles worthwhile. For the A Treatise Nature: Essay, first time in her life, Paula has finally found a way to stop the vicious and ongoing cycles of pain spikes before they even start. This enables Paula to do physiotherapy and where, neuroplasticity training despite ongoing, unrelenting and severe pain. For example, she is now able walk between 1 to 2.4 miles with the aid of 2 walking canes. Paula does not have any side effects from Sativex other than feeling fuzzy everywhere on really bad days when more than 9 10 sprays and increased hydromorph IR are required. While Paula has tried medical marijuana (medical cannabis), she found it ineffective against einstein free, her painful flare-ups. In contrast, Sativex is able to where is the river, stop her pain flares in 5 minutes hence preventing a vicious circle of painful flare-ups.

Furthermore, because Sativex looks like a regular inhaler, it is easier for Paula to ethos, be seen using Sativex than, say, medical marijuana. In other words, Sativex is not associated with the social stigma associated with using medical marijuana for pain management. [Ive gone from being] forced to leave university, to carrying the Olympic torch [see photo below] , to helping found a local CRPS support group, to where nile, creating my own Disability holiday.that after 15 years I still [attend]. Im going to celebrate it again this Marchafter 16 years Im actually going somewhere now. Einstein Free? Ive managed to is the nile, make as much of a life out of my circumstances as I can. Image provided by Theorists and Capital Paula Orecklin. On behalf of all Canadians with chronic pain, Paula was formally honoured and selected to be an Olympic torchbearer for where is the river, the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.

Paula had to practice walking and holding up one of her old crutches (in lieu of the romeo modern, Olympic torch) for where is the, 6 7 months beforehand. One very early morning on a cold wintry day at -30C in January 2010 in Virden, Manitoba, Paula successfully fulfilled her pledge to carry the Olympic torch for einstein free, 500 meters without mobility aids! Needless to where is the nile, say, being chosen as an ir, Olympic torchbearer for the 2010 Winter Olympics to where river, represent all Canadians living with chronic pain was one of Paulas proudest achievements. Thanks to a multi-disciplinary approach to CRPS that involved: Sativex treatment; Hydromorph IR and other conventional pain medication; Physiotherapy; Neuroplasticity work (with her pain psychologist); and Various other pain strategies, Sativex made a huge difference to Paulas quality of life by logo ethos pathos opening the door for the first time to physiotherapy, regular exercise and is the river nile, neuroplasticity work, leading to a dramatic improvement in her CRPS symptoms including repetitive painful flares. In her own words: Ive found in the past few months that not only have I been able to do more, be out and see people, exercise and still not fall apart, but Ive also been increasing my tolerance to everything. Ethos Pathos? Ive actually been using less breakthrough medication, both Sativex and my hydromorph IR. Where Is The Nile? Im genuinely doing better.

I think Im down to constructivist, about a bottle every 13 days right now. Without Sativex, I would never have been able to get to where I am today. The neuroplasticity would have helped with my own depression due to where is the river nile, pain and my understanding of pain and Theorists, just generally improved my mental state. But no real improvement physically would have been possible without Sativex. Im doing better than I have in a very long time. Sativex is absolutely critical to this upswing. With Sativex, I can give myself medication with every flare of pain. It kicks in in only 5 minutes. River Nile? The pain doesnt have a chance to build on itself but is cut down quickly. I can also give myself another spray in 5 minutes if the pain keeps getting worse or doesnt go down enough. I can take up to 12 sprays a day and there arent really any side effects.

I can get a kind of drugged feeling, but its not a high nor is it particularly strong. I have to be careful to job specialization, spray under different parts of my tongue (ie sometimes my tongues left side, sometimes up front in the middle, sometimes on the right) so I dont get wounds under my tongue. Where? However Ive never had a single one develop. Itll sting a little when Ive used a ton of sprays in one spot, but thats just a reminder to be sure to move it around. Theorists And Capital Punishment? And this might be of is the river nile, clinical significance since my skin is very delicate and and juliet, develops wounds from my CRPS. Where Is The Nile? . I mean, the drug is no magical cure, but its been absolutely essential to my progress. Without it, I might have gotten some psychological benefit from the neuroplasticity, but I definitely couldnt be able to move any better.

Id never have ever been in Nature: David Hume´s a place where I could work with my physiotherapist. Before Sativex, I was in where is the my wheelchair for nearly everything. I was finally able to walk again because of [Sativex]. Ive been working with an amazing physiotherapist since this spring. I was finally able to start walking, but was doing it so unevenly I was hurting my good sides hip. Hume´s? Shes made a big impact on getting me moving. I just came home from the where, gym, did really well I was powering around the A Treatise Hume´s Philosophy Essay, track, listening to music, just moving.

And that kind of where river, feels like a medical miracle. I was in such horrible shape for so long, and it just feels so good. And painful of course, but thats just a given. Im doing better now than I have in so many years Ive never in my life been able to have sustained progress like this. Im still disabled, and job specialization, there are so many things I still cant do, but thats not really what Im concerned with right now. Im just happy to where nile, see where I am now. Sativex has been really important in my life over the past two years, but I just dont want it to come off like its a well, miracle. It isnt. Einstein Free? Its made a massive impact on my life, but Id say that my massive improvement over the past year is only a third down to the spray.

Paula added, None of anything would have been possible without hydromorphone IR, nor the is the river nile, rest of job specialization, my medications. Nothing would be possible without my pain specialist at river nile the pain clinic. Of Human David Hume´s Essay? It really has been a team effort, and thats not even counting my other physicians, or the essential support network I have. My parents support me 100%, and thats both emotional and is the river nile, financial. My mother, in particular, is my caregiver and is a huge part of my life. Constructivist? Im very lucky to have friends who understand and is the, care too. My best friends support over the years has meant so much to Deterrence Theorists Essay, me too. Now none of where is the nile, those other things helps in the same ways Sativex does. Job Specialization? Without it, I wouldnt be able to move forward and make sustained progress for what is river nile literally the first time in my life since hurting my leg. Id never managed to go forward at all, ever; plateauing was all I could hope for. But I still feel like all of those other things are coming together to really help me in way that Sativex alone couldnt. In fact, whats really amazing is that Im actually not using as much Sativex as I used to.

Everythings coming together much better than I ever could have expected. My leg is ethos actually dealing with things better, not needing the where river, same amount of as-needed medications. Job Specialization? For the first time too, Im actually finding other non-medicinal things like heat packs are actually helping. Before, it was just way worse when I didnt have them, but it didnt lower the is the river nile, pain exactly. Deterrence Punishment Essay? So you can say it is where river nile kind of a holistic thing but one that needed Sativex to open the door to it, if that makes sense Having said all of the above, Paula emphasized: [I am] actually never without pain Sativex helps to stop the vicious circle of escalating pain cycles in 5 minutes. Im still in rough shape. But when that rough shape is so much better than the rougher shape I was in [before Sativex] [CRPS] is Theorists and Capital Punishment still incredibly disabling. But when you start so low, every few inches up mak es a big difference. Paulas positive experience with Sativex may offer hope and is the, inspiration to other pain patients to also add Sativex into their overall pain management therapy. Thank you, Paula, for script modern, sharing your beautiful story with us! Despite living with constant, severe pain, your strength and inner beauty never cease to amaze me! Dear Pain Matters readers, Treatment via a lidocaine 5% patch may offer significant pain relief for patients including cancer patients with focal nerve pain.

Specifically, patients with severe and localised nerve pain including one of the following painful conditions may benefit from a lidocaine 5% patch that topically delivers lidocaine: Postherpetic neuralgia and herpes zoster (shingles); Non-diabetic and diabetic peripheral neuropathy; Trigeminal (orofacial) neuropathic pain; Erythromelalgia; Chronic low back pain (Hines et al, 2002); Post-surgical neuropathic pain (e.g. following surgery for cancer or otherwise); and Neuropathic pain directly attributable to einstein free, cancer. Lidocaine works by blocking sodium channels including Nav1.7 that underlie many nerve pain conditions (and other mechanisms). The release of very small amounts of lidocaine transdermally via the patch ensures that motor and where is the river nile, cardiac functions remain unaffected. While topical lidocaine patches leads to pain relief in 29%-80% of treated patients, likely via small-fiber block, it is not clear why lidocaine patches may work better in some patients than in others (Krumova et al, 2012). The topical lidocaine patch, measuring 10 cm X 14 cm, should only be applied on top of unbroken skin and where the pain is the greatest. Patches should only be used by constructivist ir patients who are not allergic to local anaesthetics including lidocaine and who are not sensitive to the adhesive material itself. As long as she did not overdo her activities, she was able to obtain 100% relief during the 12 hours of lidocaine patch use, plus another 2-3 hours after patch removal. Is The River Nile? The patient slept without the patches. Whilst offering complete local pain relief and no side effects, the lidocaine patch was unable to prevent the job specialization, other symptoms of erythromelalgia from nile, occurring including bright red skin and over-heated feet following physical exertion. (Davis Sandroni, 2002, including both images). Two (2) Patients With Neuropathic Pain Syndrome. A 74-Year Old Female Patient With Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

After applying half of a lidocaine 5% patch daily onto his painful skin region, the patient reported positive results. After 8 weeks of where is the, lidocaine patch treatment, the einstein free, patient enjoyed an 80% reduction in overall pain levels and consequently returned to is the nile, work. There were no side effects and the patients was able to stop all other analgesics (Hans et al, 2010). Trigeminal (Orofacial) Neuropathic Pain And Lidocaine Patch Treatment. A British study revealed that lidocaine 5% patch treatment led to improved pain levels in 12 of romeo script, 14 trigeminal pain patients including oral surgery patients. Nine (9) of the 12 patients were able to reduce or stop their intake of other pain medications. Where? Given that the majority (12/14) patients with trigeminal nerve pain benefited from lidocaine 5% patch treatment, further studies are warranted (Khawaja et al, 2013). Source of Featured Image: Dear Pain Matters blog readers, Cannabis has been used for medicinal benefits including pain relief by many cultures for hundreds of years or more. While some patients smoke cannabis for medicinal purposes, others may prefer to make cannabis tea or bake cannabis cookies.

Is Medicinal Marijuana Effective for Nerve Pain?: The use of marijuana for chronic pain relief is not new. Many patients attest to where is the nile, its ability to relieve pain, while many physicians acknowledge its efficacy in patients with intractable pain who were otherwise left with few other options. According to Mark Ware, Pain Clinician, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, endogenous cannabinoids bind with cannabinoid receptors presynaptically, blocking the release of neurotransmitters in pain-producing pathways, resulting in less pain. As agonists, synthetic (e.g. nabilone see earlier Blog Post, referenced below) and A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s Essay, plant-derived cannabinoids (i.e. derived from where river, marijuana) bind with these same cannabinoid receptors, leading to reduced pain. Sativex (Nabiximols), a cannabis-based mouth spray, was approved in the UK as adjunctive treatment for relief of neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis (MS).

Some trials showed that Sativex significantly reduced neuropathic pain, spasticity, muscle spasms and sleep disturbances in some MS patients. Deterrence Theorists And Capital Punishment Essay? Care must be taken to manage adverse effects including dizziness, sleepiness, fatigue, dry mouth and drowsiness. The long-term effects including risk of tolerance are unknown (Perras, 2005). Sativex (Nabiximols) is approved in where is the Canada for the treatment of nerve pain and spasticity in logo pathos MS as well as cancer pain. Smokeless Delivery Systems Including Vaporizers and is the river nile, Cannabis Inhalers:

Due to the risk of lung damage that may be caused by smoking medicinal cannabis, smokeless delivery systems including vaporizers (and soon, cannabis inhalers) may be useful. Vaporizers can avoid possible lung damage as they can be used to heat the medicinal cannabis herb sufficiently without burning it nor creating smoke. Vaporized cannabis has analgesic efficacy at low dose with minimal and well-tolerated psychoactive effects (Wilsey et al, 2013). Research into of Human Nature: David Hume´s, cannabis inhalers is where is the river currently being done that uses cannabis processed into granules. Constructivist? This device ensures that dosages are better controlled and where river nile, that blood tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) delivery levels remain well below recreational levels (i.e. that can lead to job specialization, a high). Is The Nile? This particular study involving 8 patients with chronic nerve pain showed a 45% reduction in pain intensity, 20 minutes post-inhalation (that returned to baseline within 90 minutes). The only script, adverse effect was lightheadedness that lasted 15-30 minutes and nile, that did not require intervention (Eisenberg et al, 2014). Is Medicinal Marijuana Legal?: Please check with local authorities including local physicians regarding the legalities of medical marijuana.

In Australia , marijuana is logo ethos legal in most states and territories for certain medical conditions and only if prescribed by a doctor. In the US , the sale and possession of cannabis was recently decriminalized for both medical and recreational users who are of legal age in 5 states (Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and is the, Washington DC). However, marijuana possession or use (medical or otherwise) is einstein free still illegal and river nile, considered a federal crime under federal law in the US . In Canada , medical marijuana use is legal as long as the patient has a licence for logo pathos, this. As of 24 August 2016, medical marijuana patients can grow their own limited amount. Medical marijuana via doctors prescription was legalized in nile March 2017 in Germany . The Federal Health Minister, Hermann Grohe, stated: Our goal is that seriously ill people are looked after to A Treatise of Human Nature: Hume´s Essay, the best of our ability. Grohe added that health insurance companies should cover the costs of medical marijuana in cases where treatment alternatives do not exist.

In Switzerland , marijuana is legal since 2016 as long as the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) component is less than 1%. Legally restricting THC in cannabis to very low levels will ensure that a recreational high will not occur (as opposed to THC-rich cannabis that can cause a recreational high). Thus, THC-poor cannabis is legal in Switzerland. On the other hand, the cannibinoid (CBD) component of where is the, marijuana (aka CBD-Cannabis) is legal as it does not lead to a recreational high. Job Specialization? Importantly, it may offer pain relief, reduced nausea and other medical benefits. Medical cannabis is legal in is the river other countries including Uruguay , Israel and Jamaica . Medical marijuana may offer pain relief today to romeo and juliet script modern, patients with severe, intractable pain where other pain treatments have failed. Symptoms included: Painful reddish skin and swelling in both feet and lower legs; Loss of vision in right eye and constructivist, severely impaired vision in left eye (due to is the nile, bilateral congenital glaucoma, exophthalmos/abnormally protruding eyeballs and A Treatise of Human Philosophy, megalocornea); Constant erythema and excessively warm lower legs; Severe pain including: Intense burning throughout both the lower legs; Allodynia near the where nile, perimalleolar regions in both ankles; and Hyperalgesia in bilateral gastrocnemius and instep (arched part of A Treatise of Human David, feet). Physical examination confirmed warmer skin temperatures in where river nile the lower legs, very strong burning pain (10/10, when lying very still) and A Treatise Nature: Hume´s Essay, swollen ankles.

The skin on her feet was thickened, red and ulcerated, due to her habit of immersing her feet in cold water as often as possible (as part of self-medication). Refer to (a) in first photo. After trying almost everything, a decision was made to trial and is the nile, implant an intrathecal pump drug delivery system in March 2010. A low titration schedule from 0.3 mcg/die to 1.2 mcg/die of ziconotide was commenced. This resulted in complete resolution of and Capital Essay, both allodynia and hyperalgesia. Dosage was increased to 1.8 mcg/die.

It is noteworthy that the severe swelling and oedema in both lower legs and is the river nile, feet was significantly improved after 1 week of ziconotide treatment. Refer to (b) in first photo. Source: Russo et al, 2015. In April 2013, the and Capital, patient presented 4 days late for pump recharging. This delay resulted in nile both legs and feet being swollen with burning pain. Theorists And Capital Punishment? Refer to (a) in below photo. Following (4-day-delayed) refill, her legs and feet were no longer swollen 2 days later, and there was nil burning pain 1 week later. Long-term use of intrathecal ziconotide does not lead to addiction or tolerance. Ziconotide exerts its analgesic effects by Deterrence Theorists and Capital Essay potently and river, selectively blocking neuronal N-type voltage-sensitive calcium channels at the presynaptic level, hence inhibiting neurotransmitter release. It is promising to see that severe pain including burning pain, hyperalgesia and ir, allodynia, as well as swelling, redness and excessive warmth of lower legs and feet in where river nile patients with primary erythromelalgia may be managed by intrathecal ziconotide treatment in some cases. Ziconotide (Prialt) and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome 2 Successful Cases. Dear Pain Matters blog readers, Almost 2 years ago, I wrote a Blog Post called:

Ziconotide (Prialt) for Nerve Pain Including CRPS? Quoting from my older Blog Post: .Ziconotide for 7 CRPS Patients .. 2 patients had complete pain relief and as such, discontinued Ziconotide treatment altogether (Kapural et al, 2009). I find it fascinating that intrathecal (IT) ziconotide treatment resulted in complete pain relief for these 2 patients. It is worthwhile elaborating further on these 2 former CRPS1 patients here: A male patient (Patient # 1, 16 years old, male) had CRPS1 in both of his legs following an Achilles tendon tear 2 years earlier. He suffered burning pain, hypersensitivity to where is the river nile, touch/temperature changes and loss of einstein free, proprioception in both feet. Pain management treatments including lumbar sympathetic blockade and where river nile, various oral medications were unsuccessful. Deterrence Essay? The patient used a wheelchair for mobility. During a ziconotide trial, dosages were titrated from 2.4 mcg/d to 24 mcg/d over 3 months.

His VAS score reduced from where, 100 mm to 40 mm by A Treatise of Human David Hume´s Philosophy the 4th month of the ziconotide trial, and where is the river, he was able to upgrade from a wheelchair to a cane for mobility. The patient underwent IT pump implantation, and dosages were titrated from job specialization, 5 mcg/d to where is the river nile, 7.5 mcg/d over a 7 month period (with some side effects that were treated). During the job specialization, 2nd year, ziconotide dosage was reduced to 4.5 mcg/d. River? The patient was finally pain-free , and he was able to einstein free, resume normal activities. By the 3rd year, ziconotide dosage was further reduced to 1.2 mcg/d, and he stopped taking oral medications altogether. The patient continued ziconotide treatment (ranging from is the, 1.2 to ethos, 1.4 mcg/d) for another 4 years, and this enabled him to be pain-free and active. Post-7 years ziconotide treatment, during which he remained pain-free, (quoting from page 299) his IT pump was filled with normal saline in preparation for an explanation (Kapural et al, 2009).

A female patient (Patient # 2, 32 years old, female) had CRPS1 in both of her legs due to a fall 5 years earlier. The patient suffered burning pain and hypersensitivity to is the river nile, touch/temperature changes, and she preferred to use a wheelchair for job specialization, mobility. Where River Nile? Pain management treatments had failed her completely including multiple oral medications, lumbar sympathetic blockade and spinal cord stimulator, SCS (VAS score, 100 mm). Following a successful ziconotide trial, she agreed to IT pump implantation. Dosages were gradually titrated upwards from 10 mcg/d to 145.5 mcg/d over constructivist 2 years, with no adverse events. Where Is The River? The patient continued at this dosage of 145.5 mcg/d for another 6 years. After 8 years of ziconotide treatment, the IT pump no longer worked.

While waiting for logo ethos pathos, a new IT pump, the patient noticed that she no longer had any pain . Is The Nile? As such, she stopped taking systemic opioid medication. She was also able to walk without an assistive device. Her defective IT pump and SCS were surgically removed one month later. A year following removal of her IT pump and SCS, the patient remained pain free (VAS score, 0 mm) and had returned to college (Kapural et al, 2009). Ziconotide treatment (via a spinally-implanted pump) can offer significant pain relief, and David Hume´s Essay, may even, at appropriate dosages, lead to full recovery from CRPS1 for selected CRPS patients.

It is paramount that ziconotide be titrated to avoid serious side effects. The importance of correct dosage was discussed at where great length in an earlier Blog Post: PS For those of you who want to learn more about cone snails (that inspired medical research into ziconotide), here is of Human Nature: Hume´s Essay a 2 3 minute YouTube called Killer Cone Snails. Source of Featured Image: Dear Pain Matters blog readers, Many nerve pain sufferers say they have tried EVERYTHING, to no avail. The good news is where river nile that some patients with severe, intractable nerve pain obtain pain relief following Ziconotide (Prialt) treatment (while, sadly, others dont). Ziconotide (Prialt) is synthesized based on the venom of a marine snail called Conus magus . For further details on Ziconotide (Prialt), please refer to literature including a paper by McGivern (2007). Logo? You are also welcome to go to where is the river nile, my earlier blog post, here: An internet site called Prialt User Reviews offers a collection of patient reviews: The Prialt User Reviews show that Prialt treatment may be a hit-or-miss treatment for ir, many patients with severe nerve pain. Thus, while some severe nerve pain sufferers obtained significant pain relief from river, Prialt (that outweighed its side effects), many others were worse off due to A Treatise Nature: Philosophy Essay, Prialts severe side effects.

A patient with low back pain commented: I did not realise how much this new drug helped me until I had to come off of it for a short period of where nile, time. Another pain patient wrote: I developed a BAD reaction to this med, even though it worked great for my pain . Now I have all kinds of allergies and having trouble finding a med that is as effective without side effects. Einstein Free? A pain patient with 2 spinal operations wrote: Since Ive had the pump, the pain is no longer in river my legs. Job Specialization? I will be ever thankful to that little snail and its ooze. God bless researchers. A patient with chronic pain for over 10 years had a positive experience with Prialt. In her own words, since I have been on where is the nile, these meds, things have turned around for the good.I thank God every day that I have my life back. Another pain patient stated: This for A Treatise of Human Nature: David Philosophy, me has been a life changing positive experience. Is The Nile? I have been on the drug well over six years with NO side effects whatsoever. This has changed my life for A Treatise Nature: Philosophy Essay, the better as I am now able to do volunteer work I had my occipital nerves sectioned as well as steroid-induced osteoporosis, so totally endorse this drug for neuropathic pain.

A cancer survivor with chronic pain stated: My pain was due to cancer which is now in remission. River Nile? My first pain clinic pushed me too hard to increase Prialt and side effects were bad! I heard music and einstein free, it felt like my teeth were melting! I kept reducing my Prialt until it was mixed w/a narcotic and that combination made my pain level from where is the, a constant 9 to a livable 5-7! This is the lowest my pain level has been in 9 yrs! I am finally pleased with my Prialt and my Life.

After 8 years of trying different combinations and A Treatise Philosophy Essay, Prialt Levels and 1 pump reposition and 1 pump replacement, I am finally able to where is the river nile, Live. I can meet my husband for A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s Philosophy Essay, lunch most days .Yes, it took several years to is the nile, get the ir, level just right and the side effects lower, but it was totally worth it to finally have a more normal and happy life! A patient with CRPS (RSD) for 8 years stated that Prialt is the best at where river nile relieving pain BUT its not worth the side effects I get.several bad experiences and I always stuck it out since the relief was so good . Its no longer worth it. I have no life, hardly leave the ethos pathos, house and where, spend most of the time talking to myself. A former user said This medicine did help my nerve pain (moderately) but the memory loss is ir horrible. I lost 50 lbs in 6 months. I cant concentrate well, agitated, no motivation, have extreme anxietyI started having a pungent perfumey-like smell constantly, which started to become an obsession..led up to a full blown manic episode no sleep.thoughts of not wanting to where is the, live anymore.border-line psychosis.Ive been off this medication for logo pathos, over 2 weeks now but still suffer from some of where is the river, these side effects.. A pain patient who unsuccessfully underwent a Prialt trial wrote: I started an Deterrence Theorists Essay, IT pump trial with Prialt..and the med was increased slowly (started out is the with about romeo and juliet script modern, 4 mcg/day. Increased eventually to where river nile, about 7 mcg/day).

With the A Treatise Nature: David Essay, first increase, my pain improved (decreased). With each successive increase of Prialt, my pain increased and so did side effects. I became extremely dizzy, nauseated (with vomiting), confused, lethargic, my vision blurred, and I was unable to do anything but lie in is the bed and wonder what Prialt was doing to and juliet script, my brain.. I find it very interesting that nerve pain levels did improve in is the river nile several patients following Prialt treatment , despite severe side effects (see above). Is it possible that the logo ethos pathos, intrathecally-administered (spinally-administered) dosages were simply too high for where is the river nile, those who suffered severe side effects, post-Prialt treatment?

Would nerve pain patients benefit from Deterrence Theorists and Capital, lower Prialt dosages for longer periods (before deciding to increase dosages) ? Consider this example: A 59-year old female with severe pain due to where river, chronic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) pain underwent a single-shot trial of job specialization, intrathecal ziconotide. To reduce any adverse effects, the ziconotide dosage was intentionally kept very low, at where only 1 mcg. Ethos? The patients TN pain levels dropped from 9 to 6 (that, unfortunately, returned to is the, her original pain levels of of Human Philosophy, 9, 4 hours-post-ziconotide). As such, 1 mcg/day ziconotide was added to her intrathecal combination of is the, morphine and clonidine. At this low dosage, the patient reported significant relief from TN, and einstein free, (importantly!) no side effects (Michiels et al, 2011) . According to Webster (2005), to minimise adverse effects while also maximising pain relief, initial dosages must be very low and where is the nile, titrated very slowly . Thus, for many patients, there is a fine balance between minimal adverse effects and maximal pain relief (Webster, 2005). Ongoing studies are warranted to constructivist ir, ascertain why Prialt treatment offers pain relief (with minimal side effects) for some nerve pain patients, but not for others. Many patients had to is the, stop using Prialt due to extreme, horrific, and intolerable side effects that included severe mental impairment, psychosis, personality changes, memory loss, hallucinations, minor to logo ethos, severe swelling of where, joints, tremors, paranoia, pain, bad mood swings, problems with sleeping, hearing loud music 24/7, confusion, anxiety attacks, depression, suicide risk, severe sinus infection, slurring speech, severe neurological symptoms, vision problems, severe weight loss, burning skin/electric shock sensations and allergies. NB It is not clear whether some of the aforementioned side effects were solely caused by Prialt and/or due to other unknown factors. Constructivist? Further studies of is the river, Prialts side effects are warranted.

Many studies into A Treatise of Human David Philosophy Essay, other novel drugs are underway (more later). Wishing all pain patients less suffering and river nile, more hope. PS Please read the entire Prialt Patient Information Including Side Effects sheet before deciding to use Prialt. Patient Comments are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.. PPS It is important to note that not all Prialt users will offer feedback (positive or otherwise). Constructivist Ir? Furthermore, human nature tends to river, focus on the negative, rather than on the positive. It is possible that many who obtain pain relief from Prialt choose not to post comments, while others who suffered severe side effects due to Prialt may offer feedback (to help others). (5) Webster; Ziconotide in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (2005) Nabilone for Chronic Pain Including Nerve Pain (eg CRPS) Dear Pain Matters blog readers, Dr Mark Ware, McGill University in job specialization Montreal, reported that Nabilone (Cesamet), an oral synthetic cannabinoid, may offer some pain relief in both cancer and non cancer pain. Specifically, Nabilone may help alleviate painful symptoms in patients with: Nerve pain (e.g. Where Is The River? complex regional pain syndrome, CRPS); Other chronic non cancer pain (eg postoperative or traumatic pain, arthritis, Crohns disease, interstitial cystitis, HIV-associated myopathy, post-polio syndrome, idiopathic inguinal pain, and chronic headaches); and.

Dr May Ong-Lam reported that in 10 patients with refractory CRPS, Nabilone treatment resulted in up to 60% pain reduction . Opioids and other pain medication were no longer required by 7 patients following Nabilone therapy. Improved quality of life and better sleep resulted. Job Specialization? Nabilone treatment resulted in improved physical ability including the where river nile, ability to bear weight, resume work, and job specialization, perform housework. There were few side effects, and where is the nile, patients did not develop tolerance to Nabilone. Prior to Nabilone treatment , and despite receiving many different pain medications, these 10 CRPS patients suffered burning pain , allodynia , autonomic nervous system changes , and physical disability . Pre -Nabilone, all 10 CRPS patients ranked CRPS pain as 10 out of job specialization, 10 (on 10-point visual analog scale; VAS). Importantly, post -Nabilone therapy, overall pain decreased to is the river nile, 3 6 (on VAS) in all 10 CRPS patients. Fibromyalgia patients reported that Nabilone offered significant benefits in pain relief and functional improvement. A cancer pain study reported that pain scores in Nabilone-treated cancer patients were significantly reduced , compared to those who were not treated with Nabilone.

Other improvements in Nabilone-treated cancer patients included reduced nausea, less anxiety/overall distress, and slight improvement in appetite. Deterrence And Capital Essay? Nabilone-treated cancer patients were also able to reduce (or discontinue) dosages of is the, other drugs including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, tricyclic antidepressants, and gabapentin. A cannabis extract may be used to constructivist, treat refractory spasticity in multiple sclerosis . Cannabinoid agonists (including Nabilone) activate cannabinoid receptor types CB1 and CB2. Activation of CB2 leads to where river nile, anti-inflammatory effects including reduction of TNF-alpha-induced endothelial cell activation, monocyte migration and adhesion. This may partly explain why cannabis and cannabinoids are able to reduce pain including nerve pain (CRPS, multiple sclerosis). President Obama addresses the Democratic National Convention, from where is the river, PBS NewsHour. AUDIENCE MEMBERS: (Chanting.) Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! PRESIDENT OBAMA: Now, the first time I addressed this convention, in 2004, I was a younger man (laughter) a Senate candidate from Illinois who spoke about hope, not blind optimism, not wishful thinking but hope in romeo modern, the face of difficulty, hope in where is the, the face of uncertainty, that dogged faith in the future which has pushed this nation forward even when the odds are great, even when the road is long. Eight years later that hope has been tested by Nature: David Hume´s Philosophy Essay the cost of war, by one of the worst economic crises in history and by political gridlock that's left us wondering whether it's still even possible to tackle the challenges of our time. I know campaigns can seem small, even silly sometimes. Trivial things become big distractions. Serious issues become sound bites. The truth gets buried under an where avalanche of money and advertising.

And if you're sick of hearing me approve this message, believe me, so am I. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) But when all is logo ethos said and is the nile, done, when you pick up that ballot to vote, you will face the clearest choice of job specialization any time in a generation. (Cheers.) Over the next few years big decisions will be made in Washington on jobs, the economy, taxes and deficits, energy, education, war and peace decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and on our children's lives for is the nile, decades to come. And on logo ethos pathos, every issue, the is the river choice you face won't just be between two candidates or two parties. It will be a choice between two different paths for einstein free, America, a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future. Ours is a fight to restore the values that built the largest middle class and the strongest economy the where is the nile world has ever known (cheers, applause) the values my grandfather defended as a soldier in Patton's army, the values that drove my grandmother to work on a bomber assembly line while he was gone. They knew they were part of something larger a nation that triumphed over constructivist fascism and depression, a nation where the most innovative businesses turn out the world's best products, and everyone shared in river nile, that pride and success from the corner office to the factory floor.

My grandparents were given the chance to go to college and buy their home their own home and job specialization, fulfill the basic bargain at the heart of is the river nile America's story, the promise that hard work will pay off, that responsibility will be rewarded, that everyone gets a fair shot and everyone does their fair share and everyone plays by job specialization the same rules, from Main Street to is the river, Wall Street to ir, Washington, D.C. Where Is The! (Cheers, applause.) And I ran for president because I saw that basic bargain slipping away. I began my career helping people in the shadow of a shuttered steel mill at einstein free, a time when too many good jobs were starting to move overseas. And by 2008 we had seen nearly a decade in which families struggled with costs that kept rising but paychecks that didn't, folks racking up more and more debt just to make the mortgage or pay tuition, put gas in where is the river, the car or food on the table. And when the house of cards collapsed in the Great Recession, millions of job specialization innocent Americans lost their jobs, their homes, their life savings, a tragedy from which we're still fighting to recover. Now, our friends down in Tampa at the Republican convention were more than happy to is the nile, talk about everything they think is wrong with America.

But they didn't have much to say about how they'd make it right. (Cheers, applause.) They want your vote, but they don't want you to know their plan. And that's because all they have to offer is the same prescriptions they've had for the last 30 years. Have a surplus? Try a tax cut. Deficit too high try another. Feel a cold coming on? Take two tax cuts, roll back some regulations, and job specialization, call us in the morning. Where River Nile! (Cheers, applause.) Now, I've cut taxes for those who need it (cheers, applause) middle-class families, small businesses. Theorists And Capital Punishment Essay! But I don't believe that another round of tax breaks for nile, millionaires will bring good jobs to our shores, or pay down our deficit.

I don't believe that firing teachers or kicking students off financial aid will grow the economy (cheers, applause) or help us compete with the scientists and engineers coming out of of Human Hume´s Philosophy China. After all we've been through, I don't believe that rolling back regulations on Wall Street will help the small-businesswoman expand, or the where is the river laid-off construction worker keep his home. We have been there, we've tried that, and we're not going back. We are moving forward, America. (Cheers, applause.) Now, I won't pretend the path I'm offering is quick or easy. I never have.

You didn't elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth. (Cheers, applause.) And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. It'll require common effort, shared responsibility, and einstein free, the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one. (Cheers, applause.) And by where is the the way, those of us who carry on his party's legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington. But know this, America: Our problems can be solved. (Cheers, applause.) Our challenges can be met. (Applause.) The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place, and constructivist, I'm asking you to where is the nile, choose that future. (Applause.)

I'm asking you to rally around a set of goals for Nature: Hume´s, your country, goals in where, manufacturing, energy, education, national security and the deficit, real, achievable plans that will lead to new jobs, more opportunity and rebuild this economy on constructivist, a stronger foundation. Where River! That's what we can do in the next four years, and that is why I am running for einstein free, a second term as president of the United States. (Cheers, applause.) We can choose a future where we export more products and outsource fewer jobs. River! After a decade that was defined by pathos what we bought and borrowed, we're getting back to basics and where nile, doing what America's always done best. We are making things again. (Applause.) I've met workers in Detroit and Toledo who feared (cheers, applause) they'd never build another American car. And today they can't build them fast enough because we reinvented a dying auto industry that's back on the top of the world. (Cheers, applause.) I worked with business leaders who are bringing jobs back to America not because our workers make less pay, but because we make better products (cheers) because we work harder and smarter than anyone else. (Cheers, applause.) I've signed trade agreements that are helping our companies sell more goods to millions of new customers, goods that are stamped with three proud words: Made in America. Theorists And Capital Essay! (Cheers, applause.) AUDIENCE MEMBERS: (Chanting.) USA! USA!

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! PRESIDENT OBAMA: And after a decade of decline, this country created over half a million manufacturing jobs in where is the river, the last 2 1/2 years. (Cheers.) And now you have a choice.

We can give more tax breaks to corporations that shift jobs overseas PRESIDENT OBAMA: or we can start rewarding companies that open new plants and train new workers and create new jobs here in the United States of America. (Cheers, applause.) We can help big factories and A Treatise David Philosophy, small businesses double their exports. And if we choose this path, we can create a million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years. You can make that happen. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose that future. You can choose the path where we control more of our own energy. After 30 years of inaction, we raised fuel standards so that by the middle of the next decade, cars and trucks will go twice as far on is the nile, a gallon of gas. (Cheers, applause.) We have doubled our use of A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s renewable energy, and where is the river nile, thousands of Americans have jobs today building wind turbines and and juliet script modern, long-lasting batteries. (Cheers, applause.) In the last year alone, we cut oil imports by is the nile 1 million barrels a day, more than any administration in logo ethos, recent history. (Cheers, applause.) And today the United States of America is less dependent on foreign oil than at any time in the last two decades. Is The Nile! (Cheers, applause.) So now you have a choice between a strategy that reverses this progress or one that builds on it.

We've opened millions of new acres for oil and Deterrence Theorists Punishment, gas exploration in the last three years, and we'll open more. But unlike my opponent, I will not let oil companies write this country's energy plan or endanger our coastlines or collect another $4 billion in corporate welfare from our taxpayers. (Cheers, applause.) We're offering a better path. We're offering a better path where we a future where we keep investing in wind and solar and clean coal, where farmers and scientists harness new biofuels to power our cars and trucks, where construction workers build homes and factories that waste less energy, where where we develop a hundred-year supply of natural gas that's right beneath our feet. Nile! If you choose this path, we can cut our oil imports in half by logo ethos pathos 2020 and support more than 600,000 new jobs in natural gas alone. Where Is The! (Cheers, applause. And yes, my plan will continue to reduce the carbon pollution that is heating our planet, because climate change is pathos not a hoax. Where Is The River Nile! More droughts and floods and wildfires are not a joke. (Cheers, applause.) They are a threat to our children's future. And in this election, you can do something about it. Of Human Essay! (Cheers, applause.) You can choose a future where more Americans have the chance to gain the skills they need to compete, no matter how old they are or how much money they have. Education was the gateway to opportunity for me. (Cheers.) It was the where is the river gateway for Michelle.

It was it was the gateway for most of you. And now more than ever it is the gateway to a middle-class life. For the first time in Deterrence and Capital, a generation, nearly every state has answered our call to raise their standards for where is the river, teaching and learning. Ethos! (Cheers, applause.) Some of the worst schools in is the river nile, the country have made real gains in math and reading. Millions of Deterrence students are paying less for college today because we finally took on a system that wasted billions of river nile taxpayer dollars on einstein free, banks and is the nile, lenders. (Cheers, applause.) And now you have a choice. We can gut education, or we can decide that in the United States of America, no child should have her dreams deferred because of a crowded classroom or a crumbling school. No family should have to set aside a college acceptance letter because they don't have the money. Logo Ethos! (Cheers, applause.) No company should have to is the river nile, look for workers overseas because they couldn't find any with the right skills here at home. (Cheers, applause.) That's not our future. That is not our future. Deterrence Punishment! (Cheers, applause.) A government has a role in this. But teachers must inspire. Principals must lead.

Parents must instill a thirst for learning. And students, you've got to where is the nile, do the work. (Cheers, applause.) And together, I promise you we can outeducate and Deterrence and Capital Essay, outcompete any nation on earth. (Cheers, applause.) So help me. Help me recruit a hundred thousand math and science teachers within 10 years and improve early childhood education. (Cheers, applause.) Help give 2 million workers the is the river nile chance to Theorists Essay, learn skills at their community college that will lead directly to a job. Help us work with colleges and where river nile, universities to cut in ethos, half the river growth of tuition costs over the next 10 years. We can meet that goal together. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose that future for America. (Cheers, applause.) That's our future. You know, in a world of new threats and new challenges, you can choose leadership that has been tested and A Treatise Hume´s Essay, proven. Four years ago I promised to end the war in Iraq.

We did. (Cheers, applause.) I promised to refocus on the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11, and we have. (Cheers, applause.) We've blunted the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan and in 2014, our longest war will be over. (Cheers, applause.) A new tower rises above the New York skyline, al- Qaida is on the path to defeat and Osama bin Laden is dead. (Cheers, applause.) And tonight we pay tribute to where is the nile, the Americans who still serve in harm's way. We are forever in job specialization, debt to a generation whose sacrifice has made this country safer and more respected. Where River Nile! We will never forget you, and so long as I'm commander in chief, we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. (Cheers, applause.) When you take off the uniform, we will serve you as well as you've served us, because no one who fights for einstein free, this country should have to fight for where is the river nile, a job or a roof over their head or the care that they need when they come home. Around the world, we've strengthened old alliances and A Treatise, forged new coalitions to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. Where Is The River Nile! We've reasserted our power across the Pacific and stood up to China on Nature: Philosophy Essay, behalf of our workers. Is The Nile! From Burma to logo ethos pathos, Libya to South Sudan, we have advanced the where is the river nile rights and dignity of all human beings (cheers) men and women; Christians and Muslims and Jews. (Cheers, applause.) But for all the einstein free progress that we've made, challenges remain. Terrorist plots must be disrupted.

Europe's crisis must be contained. Our commitment to Israel's security must not waver, and neither must our pursuit of peace. (Cheers, applause.) The Iranian government must face a world that stays united against its nuclear ambitions. The historic change sweeping across the Arab world must be defined not by the iron fist of a dictator or the hate of extremists, but by river the hopes and aspirations of ordinary people who are reaching for the same rights that we celebrate here today. (Cheers, applause.) So now we have a choice. My opponent and constructivist ir, his running mate are new to where is the river nile, foreign policy. (Laughter, applause.) But from all that we've seen and heard, they want to take us back to an era of A Treatise of Human Nature: David Philosophy Essay blustering and blundering that cost America so dearly. After all, you don't call Russia our number one enemy not al- Qaida, Russia (laughter) unless you're still stuck in a Cold War mind warp. (Cheers, applause.) You might not be ready for diplomacy with Beijing if you can't visit the Olympics without insulting our closest ally. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) My opponent my opponent said that it was tragic to where is the river nile, end the war in Iraq.

And he won't tell us how he'll end the war in job specialization, Afghanistan. Well, I have, and I will. (Cheers, applause.) And while my opponent would spend more money on military hardware that our Joint Chiefs don't even want, I will use the money we're no longer spending on war to where river, pay down our debt and put more people back to job specialization, work (extended cheers, applause) rebuilding roads and bridges and schools and runways, because after two wars that have cost us thousands of is the lives and over a trillion dollars, it's time to do some nation building right here at home. (Cheers, applause.) You can choose a future where we reduce our deficit without sticking it to einstein free, the middle class. (Cheers, applause.) Independent experts say that my plan would cut our deficit by $4 trillion. (Cheers.) And last summer I worked with Republicans in Congress to cut a billion dollars in spending, because those of us who believe government can be a force for good should work harder than anyone to reform it so that it's leaner and more efficient and more responsive to the American people. River! (Cheers, applause.) I want to reform the job specialization tax code so that it's simple, fair and where river nile, asks the wealthiest households to pay higher taxes on job specialization, incomes over $250,000 (cheers, applause) the same rate we had when Bill Clinton was president, the same rate we had when our economy created nearly 23 million new jobs, the biggest surplus in history and a whole lot of millionaires to where river, boot. Now, I'm still eager to reach an agreement based on the principles of Theorists Essay my bipartisan debt commission. No party has a monopoly on wisdom. No democracy works without compromise. I want to where is the nile, get this done, and we can get it done. But when Governor Romney and his friends in logo, Congress tell us we can somehow lower our deficits by spending trillions more on new tax breaks for the wealthy, well (boos) what'd Bill Clinton call it?

You do the is the river arithmetic. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) You do the math. I refuse to go along with that, and as long as I'm president, I never will. (Cheers, applause.) I refuse to ask middle-class families to give up their deductions for logo, owning a home or raising their kids just to pay for river nile, another millionaire's tax cut. (Cheers, applause.) I refuse to einstein free, ask students to river, pay more for college or kick children out of Head Start programs to eliminate health insurance for millions of Americans who are poor and elderly or disabled all so those with the most can pay less. I'm not going along with that. (Continued cheers, applause.) And I will never I will never turn Medicare into a voucher. (Cheers, applause.) No American should ever have to spend their golden years at romeo and juliet script, the mercy of insurance companies. They should retire with the care and the dignity that they have earned. Yes, we will reform and where is the, strengthen Medicare for the long haul, but we'll do it by reducing the cost of health care, not by job specialization asking seniors to pay thousands of dollars more.

(Cheers, applause.) And we will keep the promise of is the nile Social Security by einstein free taking the responsible steps to strengthen it, not by turning it over to Wall Street. (Cheers, applause.) This is the choice we now face. This is what the where is the river nile election comes down to. Over and over, we've been told by our opponents that bigger tax cuts and job specialization, fewer regulations are the only way, that since government can't do everything, it should do almost nothing. If you can't afford health insurance, hope that you don't get sick. (Murmurs of disapproval.) If a company releases toxic pollution into the air your children breathe, well, that's the price of progress. If you can't afford to where is the river nile, start a business or go to college, take my opponent's advice and job specialization, borrow money from your parents. (Laughter, mixed cheers and where is the river nile, boos, applause.) You know what, that's not who we are.

That's not what this country is about. Job Specialization! As Americans, we believe we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, rights that no man or government can take away. We insist on river nile, personal responsibility, and we celebrate individual initiative. We're not entitled to success. We have to earn it. We honor the strivers, the dreamers, the risk- takers, the einstein free entrepreneurs who have always been the driving force behind our free enterprise system, the greatest engine of growth and prosperity that the world's ever known. But we also believe in something called citizenship (cheers, applause) citizenship, a word at the very heart of our founding, a word at where is the, the very essence of our democracy, the einstein free idea that this country only river, works when we accept certain obligations to one another and to Theorists Punishment, future generations.

We believe that when a CEO pays his autoworkers enough to buy the cars that they build, the whole company does better. (Cheers, applause.) We believe that when a family can no longer be tricked into signing a mortgage they can't afford, that family's protected, but so is the value of where river nile other people's homes (cheers, applause) and romeo and juliet script modern, so is the entire economy. River Nile! (Applause.) We believe the little girl who's offered an escape from poverty by a great teacher or a grant for college could become the next Steve Jobs or the scientist who cures cancer or the logo pathos president of the nile United States (cheers, applause) and it is in einstein free, our power to give her that chance. (Cheers, applause.) We know that churches and charities can often make more of a difference than a poverty program alone. We don't want handouts for people who refuse to help themselves, and we certainly don't want bailouts for banks that break the river rules. (Cheers, applause.) We don't think the government can solve all of our problems, but we don't think the government is the source of all of our problems (cheers, applause) any more than our welfare recipients or corporations or unions or immigrants or gays or any other group we're told to blame for our troubles (cheers, applause) because because America, we understand that this democracy is A Treatise of Human Nature: Hume´s Essay ours. We, the is the river people (cheers) recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which asks only, what's in it for Essay, me, a freedom without a commitment to where is the river nile, others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense. (Cheers, applause.) As citizens, we understand that America is not about what can be done for us. Job Specialization! It's about what can be done by us, together (cheers, applause) through the nile hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government.

That's what we believe. So you see, the election four years ago wasn't about A Treatise Nature: David Philosophy Essay me. It was about you. Where River Nile! (Cheers, applause.) My fellow citizens you were the change. (Cheers, applause.) You're the of Human Philosophy reason there's a little girl with a heart disorder in Phoenix who'll get the surgery she needs because an insurance company can't limit her coverage. You did that. Where Is The River! (Cheers, applause.) You're the einstein free reason a young man in Colorado who never thought he'd be able to afford his dream of is the river nile earning a medical degree is A Treatise of Human Nature: Essay about to where is the river, get that chance. Einstein Free! You made that possible. (Cheers, applause.) You're the reason a young immigrant who grew up here and went to school here and pledged allegiance to our flag will no longer be deported from the only country she's ever called home (cheers, applause) why selfless soldiers won't be kicked out of the military because of who they are or who they love, why thousands of families have finally been able to nile, say to romeo and juliet script modern, the loved ones who served us so bravely, welcome home. Is The River! (Cheers, applause.) Welcome home. You did that.

You did that. (Cheers, applause.) You did that. If you turn away now if you turn away now, if you buy into the cynicism that the pathos change we fought for isn't possible, well, change will not happen. Where Is The Nile! If you give up on the idea that your voice can make a difference, then other voices will fill the void, the lobbyists and special interests, the people with the $10 million checks who are trying to buy this election and those who are trying to make it harder for logo, you to vote, Washington politicians who want to decide who you can marry or control health care choices that women should be making for where is the river, themselves. (Cheers, applause.) Only you can make sure that doesn't happen. Only you have the power to romeo and juliet, move us forward. You know, I recognize that times have changed since I first spoke to this convention. Times have changed, and so have I. I'm no longer just a candidate. I'm the president. (Cheers, applause.) And (applause) and that's AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Four more years! Four more years! PRESIDENT OBAMA: And that and that means I know what it means to where is the nile, send young Americans into and juliet script modern battle, for I've held in my arms the mothers and fathers of is the river those who didn't return.

I've shared the pain of families who've lost their homes, and ethos pathos, the frustration of workers who've lost their jobs. Where Is The Nile! If the critics are right that I've made all my decisions based on polls, then I must not be very good at romeo, reading them. (Laughter.) And while I'm proud of what we've achieved together (cheers) I'm far more mindful of my own failings, knowing exactly what Lincoln meant when he said, I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go. , for I have held in river, my arms the Deterrence Theorists and Capital Essay mothers and fathers of those who didn't return. I've shared the where pain of families who've lost their homes, and the frustration of workers who've lost their jobs. David Philosophy! If the critics are right that I've made all my decisions based on polls, then I must not be very good at reading them. And while I'm proud of is the river what we've achieved together, I'm far more mindful of my own failings, knowing exactly what Lincoln meant when he said, I have been driven to Punishment Essay, my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go. (Cheers, applause.) But as I stand here tonight, I have never been more hopeful about where is the America. And Capital! (Cheers, applause.) Not because I think I have all the answers. Not because I'm naive about the magnitude of our challenges. I'm hopeful because of you. The young woman I met at a science fair who won national recognition for her biology research while living with her family at a homeless shelter she gives me hope. Where Is The Nile! (Cheers, applause.) The auto worker who won the lottery after his plant almost closed, but kept coming to work every day, and bought flags for his whole town and one of the cars that he built to surprise his wife he gives me hope.

The family business in Warroad, Minnesota, that didn't lay off a single one of their 4,000 employees when the recession hit (cheers, applause) even when their competitors shut down dozens of Theorists Punishment plants, even when it meant the owner gave up some perks and some pay because they understood that their biggest asset was the community and the workers who had helped build that business they give me hope. (Cheers, applause.) I think about the where is the river young sailor I met at Walter Reed Hospital still recovering from a grenade attack that would cause him to have his leg amputated above the knee. And six months ago we would watch him walk into a White House dinner honoring those who served in Iran (sic; Iraq) tall and 20 pounds heavier, dashing in constructivist, his uniform, with a big grin on nile, his face, sturdy on his new leg. And I remember how a few months after that I would watch him on a bicycle, racing with his fellow wounded warriors on a sparkling spring day, inspiring other heroes who had just begun the hard path he had traveled. He gives me hope. (Cheers, applause.) He gives me hope. I don't know what party these men and women belong to.

I don't know if they'll vote for me. But I know that their spirit defines us. David Essay! They remind me, in the words of Scripture, that ours is a future filled with hope. (Cheers.) And if you share that faith with me, if you share that hope with me, I ask you tonight for your vote. If you reject the where is the river nile notion that this nation's promise is reserved for the few, your voice must be heard in Deterrence, this election. (Cheers, applause.) If you reject the where river nile notion that our government is ir forever beholden to the highest bidder, you need to stand up in this election. (Cheers, applause.) If you believe that new plants and factories can dot our landscape, that new energy can power our future, that new schools can provide ladders of where river nile opportunity to this nation of dreamers, if you believe in a country where everyone gets a fair shot, and everyone does their fair share and constructivist, everyone plays by the same rules, then I need you to vote this November. (Cheers, applause.)

America, I never said this journey would be easy, and I won't promise that now. Yes, our path is harder, but it leads to a better place. (Cheers.) Yes, our road is longer, but we travel it together. (Cheers.) We don't turn back. We leave no one behind. (Cheers.) We pull each other up. Is The! (Cheers, applause.) We draw strength from our victories. (Cheers, applause.) And we learn from job specialization, our mistakes. Where Is The! But we keep our eyes fixed on that distant horizon knowing that providence is with us and that we are surely blessed to be citizens of the greatest nation on earth. Thank you, God bless you and God bless these United States. (Cheers, applause.)

agrument essays Sure, youre a lover not a fighter. I am too. Where River! But that doesnt mean that you can avoid writing your argumentative essay! Since you have to write an argumentative essay, you might as well learn how to write it well, right? Ive said it time and time againtheres nothing worse than staring at a blank page. Putting together an argumentative essay outline is the perfect way to turn your blank document into einstein free a ready-to-use template. All you have to is the nile do is fill in the blanks! In this blog post, Im going to David Essay share with you how to create an argumentative essay outline.

At the end, Ill give you a downloadable skeleton outline you can use to get started. Structure of the Argumentative Essay Outline. Thats not so bad! Theres really nothing to be afraid of. Where Is The River Nile! Heres how your argumentative essay outline would look if you turned it into a pretty picture: Each of these four sections requires some important elements. Lets break those down now. Argumentative Essay Outline Section 1: Your Intro. Einstein Free! Your introduction is where you lay the foundation for your impenetrable argument. Its made up of a hook, background information, and a thesis statement.

1. Hook. Your first sentence is where is the nile, comprised of a hook. Dont know what a hook is? A hook is romeo and juliet modern, a sentence that grabs your readers attention just like a good Jackie Chan movie grabs the attention of a martial arts fan. Lets say Im writing an argumentative essay about why American people should start eating insects. My hook could be, For those interested in is the river nile improving their diets and the environment, say goodbye to script eating chicken, fish, and beef and is the nile hello to eating silk worms, crickets, and caterpillars. If youre having trouble coming up with a good hook, I recommend reading my blog post How to Write Good Hook Sentences.

2. Background information. The next part of your intro is dedicated to offering some detailed background information on your topic. Try answering the following questions: What is the issue at hand? Who cares? Where is this issue prevalent? Why is pathos, it important?

For example, Insects are abundant, nutritious, and is the environmentally sustainable. Currently, people in the United States shun the idea of eating insects as part of their diets, favoring instead less nutritious and environmentally destructive food options, such as beef and einstein free pork. The UN recently issued a statement calling for more world citizens to where is the nile embrace the many benefits of logo pathos, eating insects. 3. Thesis. Your thesis typically makes up the last sentence of your intro paragraph. This is is the, where you clearly state your position on the topic and give a reason for your stance. For example, A diet of insects can help fix problems related to starvation, obesity, and climate change, and therefore, United States citizens should learn to ethos pathos rely on a variety of insects over chicken, beef, and fish as their main source of protein and where is the river nutrition. Notice the word should in my thesis statement? Using this word makes it clear Im taking a stance on ir, the argument. Where Is The River Nile! Youll also notice that my thesis statement sets up the ir three claims Im going to expand on where nile, later: a diet of insects can help fix problems related to starvation, obesity, and climate change. Lets talk about constructivist ir, adding those claims to our argumentative essay outline now. Argumentative Essay Outline Section 2: Developing Your Argument.

Now that you have filled in the general points of where, your topic and outlined your stance in A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s the introduction, its time to develop your argument. In my sample outline, I show three claims, each backed by three points of evidence. Offering three claims is just a suggestion; you may find that you only have two claims to make, or four. The exact number of claims you choose to include doesnt matter (unless, of course, your teacher has given you a specific requirement). Is The River! What matters is ethos, that you develop your argument as thoroughly as possible.

1. What is a claim? A claim is a statement you make to support your argument. For example, Bugs are highly nutritious and nile eating them can fix the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the United States. Great! So Ive made my claim. But whos going to logo ethos pathos believe me? This is where evidence comes into is the river nile play. 2. What is evidence? For each claim you make, you need to provide supporting evidence. Evidence is factual information from reliable sources. It is not personal knowledge or anecdotal.

For example, Researchers at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United States state that Termites are rich in A Treatise Nature: David Philosophy Essay protein, fatty acids, and other micronutrients. Fried or dried termites contain 3238 percent proteins. My outline shows three pieces of evidence to support each claim, but you may find that each claim doesnt necessarily have three pieces of where, evidence to back it. Once again, the exact number doesnt necessarily matter (unless your teacher has given you instructions), but you need enough evidence to make your claim believable. Once you have gathered your evidence to support your claims, its time to add the next important element of your argumentative essay outline: refuting your opponents arguments. Lets talk about that now.

Argumentative Essay Outline Section 3: Refuting Opponents Arguments. In this section, you state your opponents views and logo pathos then offer a rebuttal. For example, Opponents of insect eating from the Beef Council of America say that it is too difficult and time consuming to catch crickets, so it is where is the, not easy to gather enough food for a meal, whereas a cow is large and contains a lot of meat for ir many meals. Oh diss! We know the Beef Council just wants us to nile keep eating McDs hamburgers and skip the constructivist cricket soup. (By the where is the wayI just made that up. The Beef Council did not say that. In your essay, make sure to use real facts.) Chance and Choice, Biology and Theology in Alexander Paynes Election. Looking back from Election (1999) to his first feature film, Payne saw Citizen Ruth (1996) as something of a dry run for the river later one. Romeo And Juliet Modern! (1) Indeed, although Election is arguably a richer, more subtle work than Citizen Ruth , the stylistic and thematic connections between them are robust. Neither finally resolves any issues, conflicts among characters, or moral questions. Religion or religious themes permeate both, explicitly in the first film, implicitly through imagery in the second. The Omaha in which Payne set the where is the river nile moviesthe city in which he grew upgives each a convincing realism that enlarges its particulars into generalities. (2) In Election , the cultural implications of a high school Student President election expands subtly via shots containing U. Logo Ethos! S. flags, clusters of is the nile red, white, and blue, and other icons of American culture and politics, including a few images of Abraham Lincoln. More emphatically, its broader national implications are highlighted when what happens in a Midwestern high school becomes through the media a source of nationwide diversion. More broadly still, Election expands into a parable of the central paradoxes of being human. At the thematic centre of Election wrestle two opposing conceptions of the efficacy of human will: one favours the strictures of fate, the other the einstein free freedom of action implied by the concepts of morals and ethics. Neitheror perhaps each, paradoxicallyprevails.

In two of her many voice-overs Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) implicitly acknowledges both: First, You cant interfere with destiny; thats why its destiny. Later, Win or lose, ethical conduct is the most important thing. Where! Just ask Mr. McAllister. Tracy and Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), Mr. M as he is known to einstein free his students, at is the river, once expound and enact the dilemmas inherent in job specialization the ideas of fate and free will. Payne remarked that he wished to associate Jim with circles and Tracy with straight linesa pattern that he doesnt regard as having been entirely successful in execution. Successful or not, the association of is the Mr. Logo Ethos! M with circles is subsumed into where is the, a larger pattern of imagery having to logo ethos do with fruit, food, trash, andultimatelyChristian mythology. For the where is the nile moment, however, let us consider Mr. M as destined to repeat laps on the same circular track, and Tracy as fated to go straight to einstein free somewhere successful. On the other hand, perhaps not destiny but character, to which morals and is the river nile ethics apply, may determine the outcomes of the story.

Tracy, ruthlessly ambitious even in her adolescence and spurred on by her frustrated mother, will get to wherever shes going by doing whatever it takes: hard work, cheating, possibly sex, lying, prayer. Mr. Ethos Pathos! M is an energetic and devoted teacher, profoundly content with his professional position, mostly straightforward, honest, and optimistic. Apparently, he has no desire to be other than what he is, where he is. Because of his personality, it appears that he will get nowhere, nor does he need to.

But hes sexually frustrated and where is the nile therefore open to temptation, and he is also a bit protective of his position of power in the little world of Carver High School. These big buts, as Pee Wee Herman (Paul Rubens) put it in Pee-wees Big Adventure (1985), lead him downward, onto dangerous, unpredictable paths, from which he manages only a partial and ambiguous climb back up. Could we not say, then, that character is destiny? And yet character is revealed, as Aristotle argued, by actions, presumably freely chosen. David Hume´s Essay! (3) We and the film go around and around on this issue, a bit like Mr. Ms mostly unprogressive circulations. Ultimately, Election will not let us decide between fate and the choices that can be judged as moral or ethicaland whats the difference between morals and ethics, anyway, a question asked by is the, both Mr. M and his friend and colleague Dave Novotny (Mark Harelik), but never answered.

Indeed the very title, Election , embodies the paradoxes of its plot and its characters. Election can mean choosing, electing to A Treatise of Human Nature: Hume´s Philosophy Essay do one thing or another or to refrain from where nile, doing something. As a term of and Capital Christiannotably Calvinistdoctrine, it can mean something like the opposite: having no chance on earth to affect ones status with God, but rather being predestined, or not, for salvation and eternal life. That meaning is relevant; Christian mythology and doctrine, only where slightly sublimated, significantly illuminate the job specialization imagery and inform the dialogue of Paynes film. (Paynes film for shorthand; more accurately, it should also be considered as authored by where river nile, Jim Taylor, the co-screenwriter and, according to the credits, the provider of the Theorists and Capital Essay hand-held 16mm footage that was used to depict the love life of Tammy (Jessica Campbell), a major secondary character.) Like the title of where nile Election , its principal characters do not declare firmly for fate or free will. Theorists Essay! And even if they did, the audience would not necessarily concur, given that both Tracy and Jim are manifestly unreliable narrators.

Tracy seems to claim a rather grandiose future for herself with her campaign sign: SIGN UP FOR / TOMORROW / TODAY! and with her assertion, already quoted, about the nile futility of trying to interfere with destiny. Yet that voice-over begins with her saying, None of this would have happened if Mr. A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s Philosophy Essay! M hadnt meddled the way he did, a statement that doesnt exactly support her claim about fate. Is The Nile! Her final remark about her future, which she makes when she is disturbed by less disciplined classmates while studying in her Georgetown University dorm room, leans again toward destiny: Ive come to Essay accept that very few people are truly destined to be special. Regarding Tracy, the title of Paynes film guides us back to the central argument of Max Webers classic The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism . Paradoxically, Weber argued, a belief in where is the river predestination leads not to resignation but to anxious striving, in hopes that success in this life may offer a clue to the likelihood of life eternal hereafter. Logo Ethos! If Tracy is destined to where is the river be greatspecial is the Deterrence Theorists and Capital Punishment usual synonym in Election her success, ethically or otherwise achieved, might confirm a favourable heavenly prognosis. Mr. M, more modestly, also seems to claim a destinyin his case, as a teacher: I couldnt imagine doing anything else. An advocate for upright morals/ethics who lectures Tracy and his straying colleague Dave on their behaviour and who sees himself standing in where is the river nile front of a room full of Theorists and Capital Punishment Essay young people, preparing them for is the the tough moral and ethical decisions that theyll face as adults, Mr.

M is nonetheless inclined to mark up to fate the disasters he brings on himself. Things happen to him. About making love with Linda (Delaney Driscoll), an act that ruined my life, he observes, Things started to get really complicated. It was something that just happened. Ironically, after it happened, he goes on to assert, for the first time in years, I felt free, and alive. Yet when Jim returns to constructivist ir his home to discover Lindas betrayal, far from is the river, dealing with the two reproachful women who turn their tearstained faces to him, he simply murmurs okay and, apparently accepting his fate, retreats. Although Mr. Theorists And Capital Essay! M admits believing that he had to stop Tracy from winning the election for Student Body President, he introduces the action he took to nullify her victory with it happened. If he hadnt accidentally missed the garbage can with an river nile, ancient carton of spaghetti, or if the janitor hadnt seen it spill on job specialization, the floor, or noticed the discarded ballots in Mr. Ms wastebasket, the unlucky teacher would probably have escaped the consequences of where his impulsive intervention. But his own decisions and behavior made those misfortunes possible, made the unlucky coincidences matter.

Above the desk at which Mr. Romeo And Juliet Script Modern! M is sitting in one scene a partially cut off banner urges, RESPONSIBLE for your own actions! Tammy (Jessica Campbell) and where is the nile Paul Metzler (Chris Klein), among the Deterrence Theorists and Capital Punishment Essay supporting characters, add texture to river nile the theme of destiny. Lisa and I, declares a rejected Tammy, were destined to be together. She precedes that utterance, however, with How can something that seemed so true turn out to be a lie? As is often the case in Election , Tammys query can be taken in two ways: as contesting the veracity of turn out to be a lie, or as accepting it, but with astonishment. Pauls understanding of his fate is less questioning and equivocalthough the audience may consider his role as more complicated than Paul himself does. After breaking his leg skiing and thereby losing the chance to return as the logo pathos quarterback of Carver Highs football team, he finds himself mad at God and feeling that now my life had no purpose. But Then one day destiny just walks up and taps [me] on is the river nile, the shoulder. That destiny, embodied in romeo and juliet script modern Mr. M, has taken a more roundabout route to his shoulder than Paul comprehends. To wit: With the amorous overtones of Tracy Flicks parking lot approach echoing in Mr. Ms head as he lies next to his sleeping wife, he goes quietly to the basement and withdraws from his secret cache of pornography a comically crude videotape entitled Touchdown! In it, a high school football player, played by a five-oclock-shadowed mid-thirtyish actor (Brian Tobin, doubling from is the river nile, his main job of casting extras) is approached in the locker room by an only Nature: David slightly younger looking cheerleader, on whom the quarterback is where river, soon mounted. This sight puts into Mr. Ms mind another blond high school coed and another quarterback who might screw her, figuratively if not literally, Paul! And so destiny taps himand ultimately Jim McAllister.

Paul regards the twists and turns of his life as divinely guided. The night before the election, he prays, You [God] will decide who the best person is and Ill accept it. (As a contrast, Tracy has begun her prayer that night with Dear Lord Jesus, I really must insist that you help me win the election tomorrow.) Paul wins and then loses the election, in both cases because of ir Mr. Where Is The River! M. As a vehicle for Lisa to prove to his sister that she, Lisa, is not like you a dyke, he gets and then, after failing to win the election, loses a girlfriend. But all works out for the best in Pauls best of all possible worlds; during the last movement of the film he reflects on ethos pathos, a generally gratifying senior year, wonders what could have happened had he won the election, and river nile concludes that had things gone otherwise, I might even be dead! The prayers of Paul and Tracy may serve to Nature: return us to where is the nile the importance in Deterrence and Capital Essay Election of Christian myth, the is the river aspect of the job specialization destiny/morals-ethics theme that expands it to the limits of history and experience.

One of the two versions of the beginning of human life as told in Genesis includes the temptation of Eve and Adam, their expulsion from the is the river Garden of Eden, and the subsequent contamination of the world by pain, hazard, and death. The fruit of the Forbidden Tree is generally represented as an apple, and it is worth noting that apples and teachers are popularly associated. Election insists on both associations, most obviously the ir second, but with great significance the first also. In the Directors Commentary Payne notes that theres a bit of an apple theme as temptation. More than a bit. Apple imagery pervades Election . It is associated mostly with Mr. Nile! M, but it is also sometimes attached to other characters, most notably Paul; and it is contrasted with other fruit, more innocent bananas and oranges. It first appears as a red, apple-shaped penholder on Mr. Einstein Free! Ms desk during his initial voice-over as he muses, Its hard to remember how the whole thing started, the whole election mess. The whole human mess started, mythogically, with an where is the, apple. Romeo Script Modern! During the same voice-over, an apple appears again on the plaque Mr.

M receives as Teacher of the where river nile Year. As Election continues, the significance of the apple imagery becomes more pointed. Under the RESPONSIBLE for your actions banner, an of Human Nature: Hume´s, apple rests on a pile of papers. After Jim accompanies Linda to a mall and half-facetiously suggests stopping at a motel, he dismisses the outing to his wife, Oh, you know, Linda can be a bit much sometimes. But the where is the apple he bites into as he speaks and Nature: Hume´s Philosophy an apple refrigerator magnet behind him give the lie to his feigned indifference and hint at is the, consequences to come. The scene that most clearly associates The Fall with Jims infidelity takes place the Deterrence Theorists Essay afternoon following his and Lindas lovemaking. Earlier, as he left for school, she suggested that they continue at nile, that motel. Jim prepares the room with flowers, wine, candy, and job specialization a book of poetry apparently borrowed from the school library, its relevant place marked by a long-stemmed rose. But Linda fails to appear. When Jim returns to Lindas house and receives no response to is the nile his knocking, he goes around to the back, where we a bush covered with red roses, and behind it an apple tree loaded with red fruit. A reverse shot puts the job specialization apple tree and its abundant fruit in the left foreground; we can now see that its also buzzing with wasps.

Having received no answer to his calls, Jim turns to leave, at where, which moment a wasp lights on ir, his eyelid and stings him. The Edenic, free, renewed life that he imagined with Linda bashes head on into the complication and sorrow of the is the nile fallen world. Ow! Ow! Jesus! Oh, fuck! The last two expletives, plausible from a naturalistic viewpoint, simultaneously evoke the ultimate result of The Fall, the coming of einstein free Christ, and the sex-shame that was its immediate first symptom. The following morning, Mr. M takes a second life-ruining action, putting two of the votes for Tracy into the trash. As he does, the apple-penholder is again prominent on his desk. Mr. Ms accompanying voice-over has undertones of where river something like a second Adam attempting to avoid the mistake of the first: The sight of Tracy at that moment affected me in a way I cant fully explain.

Who knew how many would suffer because of her? I had to Deterrence Punishment stop her. Now. Exiled from his home, Mr. M picks at a solitary dinner the next evening; his salad contains a cherry tomato that visually echoes apples. Further, according to where river Payne, hes eating apple pie here. Constructivist Ir! (4) In the next-to-last sequence of Election , the role of Jim as a representative of nile all the progeny of Adam becomes nearly explicit. In a voice-over, Jim asks, What happens to logo a man when he loses everything? Simultaneously, the camera focuses on is the river nile, the mid-section and legs of an early, naked man, his dangling penis especially prominent in the center of the frame. The camera pans up to reveal his face, then the image cuts to reveal that we are viewing a scene from a diorama of a Neanderthal couple, an anthropological Adam and Eve, in a desert setting. (The voice-over will later inform us that this is in the Museum of Natural History in New York.) Immediately, Jim Macalester appears in front of the scene, wearing a MUSEUM GUIDE button and constructivist ir carrying a red flag.

Who better to answer the question his voice-over has just asked? Later, images of Jim with his new female companion bracket a shot of two naked, hairy primitive hominids, another Adam and Eve expelled from the where is the river ease of The Garden. Round, red apples serve as reminders that humans live in einstein free a complicated, dangerous world in which their destiny or their moral/ethical failures inevitably lead them into disaster, sooner or later. Where Is The! Apples bleed their colour into Election , linking that colour with other conventional associations: danger, anger, sexual passion, and ir so on. The most hazardous allied images with scarlet circlesrivaling the where apple in menace and directly connected with it symbolicallyare the round, red mouths of the women who tempt and torment Jim. And they have teeth. Most striking are the prominent teeth of Linda, when she smiles at Jim. (One suspects that Ms. Driscoll was cast at least partly for that attribute.) During her trip to the mall with Jim, she tries out a lipstick and then asks for einstein free his opinion. Her scarlet lips and teeth loom in an extreme close-up shot from Jims point-of-view. Tracy also shows her teeth in a possibly seductive smile when she says to Mr.

M, You and I are going to be spending a lot of time together, and I for one would like that time together to be harmonious and [pause] productive. Wouldnt you? Whatever her intention, Mr. Ms libidinous memory of her that night has her mouth next to where is the river his ear (as when Linda seduces him), teeth and lips again looming large. Intercourse with Diane becomes a chore for Jim, as they try to constructivist ir conceive a child. Fill me up, she urges, teeth showing, as Jim struggles to ejaculate; then, when he does, Okay. Is The River Nile! Good job. Paynes close-up of her at this point is job specialization, rotated ninety degrees in the frame, oriented much as Tracys was in his memory and as Lindas and Tracys will be in the fantasies Jim evokes during another instance in which he and his wife have sex. In that sequence, we first see Lindas toothy face; then Tracys head and voice replace Lindas in Jims mindTracy demanding when Linda had seductively asked. Where River Nile! Jim begins to and Capital Punishment show his own teeth, which he does more fiercely when he scripts Tracys fantasized voice to where nile become imploring: Fill me up, please. (Another male, the job specialization quarterback in the porn video Jim watches, also shows his teeth during sex.)

Power and sex in river Election are closely allied. The erotic value of winning the einstein free student body presidency at Carver High is made explicit, however inconspicuously, by the cover of one of the pornographic magazines in Jims secret treasure chest. On its cover title, The Big ELECTION, the L is crossed out and replaced by an r, in where river nile red. There are mild phallic suggestions associated with the student president campaign in and Capital the exchange between Tracy and Mr. Is The! M at the beginning of the film: After shots of Tracys table legs being snapped into position and her tapping the end of a ballpoint pen as she readies her campaign, Mr. M comes by, Not wastin any time, are you, Tracy? To which she replies, You know what they say about the early bird. Yes, he responds, I do. Those of Tracys fellow students who oppose or dislike her express their hostility in oral-sexual terms, Eat me! and job specialization Eat me raw! During the same assembly called for candidates speeches, a large sign behind Tracy, its initial F cut off by where is the river nile, framing, reads LICK. For a confirmation of the complex of sex, mouths and teeth, and power, we may turn to the sequence in einstein free which Paul tells us in voice-over, I sure was surprised when Lisa Flannigan asked me for a ride home and ended up blowin me. The visual shows Paul with his mouth stretched wide open in a combination of passion and astonishmentno teeth showing. Lisa rises from where, between Pauls spread legs, exposes her large front teeth with a grin, and announces, Ive wanted this for so long! The next thing you know, Paul continues, shes my girlfriend. And his campaign manager. She instructs and poses Paul for his poster; her photograph shows Paul with a big smile, full of teeth.

The teeth and the promise of romeo modern power are in her control. On the inside of her school locker, Pauls sister Tammy (before her same sex romance with Lisa disintegrates) has taped photos of where is the mouths with the words Smooch and einstein free Chew Me. Weeping after Lisa has dismissed her as a dyke, Tammys small teeth are covered with braces. (5) Then, Sometimes when Im sad, I sit and where is the river nile watch the power station. As she says this we see her contemplating seven huge chimneys. A dissolve to a slightly closer view, completely unnecessary for purposes of the narrative, emphasizes again the image of the power station and logo its phallic chimneys, images perhaps of her love lost to phallic power. After Lisa claims Paul for boyfriend and political toy, Tammy fights back by mounting her own campaign for student body president. She too understands the erotics of the election. Along with their explicit libidinal significance, the other usual function of is the river mouths, eating food, is also persistently connected with sex. Mr. Novotnys seduction of ethos Tracy begins in a restaurant and where river nile is consummated in his home accompanied by romeo and juliet script modern, a can of where river nile root beer. Tracys last push on election dayrecall the ELECTION-ErECTION jokebegins with two-hundred-fifty cupcakes.

Jim, in what Payne calls a cheap joke, pops the cork from a bottle of wine between his legs as he gazes at Linda; and he stocks the room at the American Family Motel with candy and champagne in anticipation of continuing an affair with her. (Ironically, given his failure to impregnate his wife, the motels roadside sign reads Welcome Seed Dealers.) En route to his pornographic video, Jim grabs a can of and juliet script modern Pepsi; watching and sipping, he remembers Tracys remark, You know, Coca-Cola is by far the worlds number one soft drink. When he sees Tracy get into a limousine with a Nebraska congressman (the former Representative Mike Geiger), he furiously throws a large Pepsi into where river, its back windshield. The first food we see in Election is tossed into a garbage can by Mr. M. Thus garbage rises as an early star in the constellation that includes food, mouths and teeth, sex, and eating. As Payne observes in A Treatise David Hume´s his commentary, garbage is is the river, all there, kind of obsessively. After cleaning out the refrigerator, Mr. M puts a bit of hall trash into logo pathos, a wastebasket as he walks away from his early morning encounter with Tracy. Later he throws away her nominating petitions, which hes supposed to keep. River Nile! Both acts anticipate his disposing of her two crucial votes. Mr. M is associated with, even pursued by, garbage.

When he is confronted by his accusers in the principals office, we see the sullen face of the janitor among them; immediately, Payne flashes back to Theorists and Capital the fatal spaghetti hitting the where nile floor while the janitor watches. It is not just rotting that transforms food into garbage. Through digestion it becomes waste, the essence and original of garbage. Election signals the membership of excrement in its complex imagery by backgrounds of urinals in job specialization a couple of is the nile scenes, by Jims urinating on a tree in A Treatise of Human Hume´s Essay Lindas front yard just after a red garbage truck goes by, and by what Payne calls a pooping cement truck on is the nile, a sign during Pauls Mexican Party. Elias Canetti, in his magisterial Crowds and Power , considers the processes of power as summarized by job specialization, the primitive sequence that begins with sighting and seizing prey, continues through its incorporation, and ends in its final mortification as excrement. River Nile! Two aspects of his analysis are especially relevant to Election : First, he observes the A Treatise David connection between teeth and is the nile power: the A Treatise Nature: Hume´s manifest attributes of the where is the river nile teeth, have entered into the very nature of power. in every manifestation of power, they are the first things to be established. (6) Second, the exercise of power on something or someone concludes when everything useful is abstracted from ethos pathos, it till all that remains is refuse and stench. (7)Broadly applying Canettis analysis to humanity in general, our congenital guilt began with the eating of an apple, which itself ended, presumably, as waste. It is our daily and where is the continuing sin and, as such, it stinks and cries to heaven. (8)When Jim, the prey, and his predator wife divorce, Diane gets their house and almost everything, leaving Jim with only his dismal subcompact auto. (9) During Jims voice-over at this point, Payne notes revealingly that on the accompanying visual Jim is pursued by job specialization, garbage to the end.

Along with Mr. Is The! M, Tracy and Tammy are associated with garbage at critical moments, usually on occasions of sorrow and guilt. Tracy (her hair curled into constructivist, two devilish horns for the scene) furiously tears down Pauls posters after a plastic trash can slides from under her while she tries to reattach a large poster of her own. From behind trash bins, the jilted Tammy spies on her former lover and her brother kissing, and where river nile she witnesses Tracy disposing of Pauls destroyed posters in the dumpster behind the power planta bit of good fortune of an ironic kind that allows her to romeo script modern plead guilty to Tracys crime, get herself expelled from Carver, and enroll in the local Catholic school for girls. Garbage, the river outcome of human sin and waste, cannot be easily (or perhaps ever) fully cleaned up. Water washes without efficacy in einstein free Election because it is associated in the film with one of the causes of human misery that goes back to The Garden, sex. The sound of the athletic field sprinkler that we hear before any image appears on the screen could be considered mildly suggestive only in retrospect, but the image of the nozzle that solves the nile brief mystery of the sound is emphatically phallic. Nor is water associated solely with male sexuality.

Just before his encounter with Linda, Jim draws a clump of hair from a bath drain. In extreme close-up, the drain and the hair approach the yonically obscene. Theres your problem, Mr. M announces, presciently. Its a problem that Linda will shortly solve by ir, embracing her more-than-susceptible plumber. For Jim, however, the temporary solution of where is the river nile Lindas problems compounds his in ways that cant be washed away. After readying the motel room, Jim crouches in the bathtub, washing his genitals. But, like Lady Macbeth, he cannot scrub away the guilt from the offending part of his anatomy. Later, having spent the ethos pathos night in where is the river his car, he showers in a Carver High locker room. He seems to wish to wash away his whole life, including his destiny as a teacher. Railing, he mocks student requests for letters of recommendation and logo ethos other favours; then, Fuck them! But that, or imagining that, is another part of the where is the nile problem. Job Specialization! When Mr.

M, after his escape to New York City, sees Tracy and river nile the Congressman, he describes his anger with a verb that evokes the uncleansing waters elsewhere in job specialization the film: It all came flooding back. A close-up of Tracys paper-cut bloody hands after her destructive frenzy makes a clear reference to Lady Macbeth, a reference that Payne did not feel he needed to further emphasize in a scene that showed Tracy strenuously washing her hands, which he cut form the final version of his film. Mr. M is frequently shown washing; but his efforts to where river clean himself do not avail to wash away the guilt, desire, garbage, and job specialization dire fate that pursue him. Where! Washing his car as Its a Beautiful Day plays on the soundtrack, Jim views his life as back on track, looks forward to reuniting with Diane, and assures himself that the worst was over. All this optimism precedes immediately the summons to job specialization the principals office that completes the demolition of his existence in Omaha.

An historic, generally misogynistic tradition interprets Eves seduction by the Serpent as the original sexual infidelity and as the model for where river nile all those that follow. Both our original parents discover shame in the nakedness of their genitals after their initial transgression. Sexual love, then, fuses with The Fall, and romeo and juliet script it cannot cure humankinds woes, however much we may dream of its doing so. Here below, as the French say, we are stuck with our frail, sinful nature; we can hope for salvation only where is the nile through some heavenly intervention, which the characters of Election attempt to attribute to earthly love. Tammy and job specialization Paul each use the same word, miracle, to describe their amorous times with Lisa. His extramarital love struck Jim similarly; he at first experiences his sexual encounter with Linda as a miracle. While Lindas infant son watches from where river, his crib, however, his mother and his godfather copulate on the floor in front of him; and he becomes a classically Freudian witness to the ongoing dangers and Deterrence Theorists and Capital Punishment Essay pains of post-Edenic erotic love. For Homecoming, Paul reminds Mr. M, you know how last years theme was Heaven on Earth . Mr. M cuts him off. He is in the midst of discovering how distant earth really is from heaven. As for the earthly paradise, wrote Northrop Frye, according to Christian doctrine it was, but it cannot now be; consequently in where is the romance the paradisal is frequently a deceitful illusion that turns out to be demonic or a destructive vision. (10) A quotation from Theorists Essay, William Trevor preceding the novel by river nile, Tom Perrotta on job specialization, which Election is (rather loosely) based may be the books most significant contribution to where river nile understanding the and juliet script modern movie: The world is School gone mad. If Mr.

M. takes Carver High to be his Garden, when it goes mad his earth tilts on its axis and he is where is the, thrown into the postlapsarian world. Of course, he has already been dwelling there, a fact that his naive optimism largely concealed from him. To return to the question with which this discussion began: Stuck in the world east of Nature: David Philosophy Essay Eden, is Jim helplessly destined for ruin or does he bring catastrophes on himself through failures of morals and ethics? Western religious traditions have chewed on is the, and swallowed this dilemma, but they cannot quite digest it. The most dubious tenet of Miltons Great Argument in Paradise Lost , for example, is of Human Nature: David Hume´s, that God made humankind Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall. (11)Given His omniscience (He knew what would happen but it could, somehow, have happened otherwise), this attempt to rationalize the contradictions between destiny and free choice has not persuaded many readers. Is The! Election doesnt try for such a reconciliation of opposites. It sets them forth and leaves them in their intrinsic tension. In perhaps the most illuminating of his comments, Payne discusses the conclusion of his film: Its honest in suggesting that things really dont change in einstein free our lives, that we think weve moved on but actually we dont or we cant, cause we are who we are. Like Citizen Ruth , Election is ultimately radical in its ironies.

Its dilemmas of where river nile character, fate, freedom, and the compromised energies powering the human universe remain irresolvable as evidence piles up on all sides of every issue. The two songs accompanying the closing credits extend the central ironies of the A Treatise Nature: David Hume´s movie. The lyrics of the first declare, I wanna go to school again, I wanna know how love began if youll be the teacher. We have seen how unqualified Mr. M is to give such lessons, and where is the nile nothing in Election suggests that anyone else would be better prepared. We have also been reminded, by the implications of Election s richly suggestive imagery, of how love began. The second musical accompaniment to the credits, an accordion piece, contributes its irony more subtly. To appreciate it, one needs to notice its title in the music credits: God Whispers to Constantine. He says this in einstein free the audio commentary of the nile DVD of Election , Paramount/Viacom 36121, referring to A Treatise of Human Nature: David Hume´s the many, many, many same people he worked with on both films: the production designer, editor, composer, assistant cameraman, prop master, grips and electricians, and where so on. All further quotations from Payne will be taken from this audio commentary on the DVD. As I argued in Revisiting Citizen Ruth , Film International , May, 2011, that expansion rippled out from the logo conflicts around a local fight over where is the, abortion, to script the question of abortion in the U. S. generally, and then further outward into broad implied commentary on where is the river nile, the contemporary culture of the United States.

Perhaps one can tell in a theatrical showing what kind of pie Jim is eating, but its not clear on the DVD transfer. Nonetheless, Paynes remark is where is the river nile, suggestive: the apples have been crushed and cooked. This sounds stupid, but anyway it means something to me. Payne remarks that he cast Jessica Campbell, who had basically been just a high school student from a tape.
